Spring brings out the best

It has been one of those weeks. Seems that spring has finally decided to peek out from behind the slick roads, and snow covered fields. I’m very excited for spring, or should I say I’m excited for ATV season. J

There is a problem with warmer weather though. I have found it out this week; seem criminals like the warm weather too. We have been very busy for the last 4 days. DUI’s, brutal batteries, pursuits, house fires, and much more. Oh and I forgot underage alcohol. The kids are getting spring fever as well, and that brings the drinking parties.

We had another Taser class this week for those in our departments that couldn’t get to the last class. I plan on making another video of that when I get the video footage. I will get it on my site, as long as everyone involved is willing.

DUI

I thought this video was very too the point. One thing that makes me laugh about it is when she says, "when a cop gives you a warning" I don't give warning's for DUI. If you drink and drive you go to jail. Anyway, the video shows the most important reason not to drink and drive. It' s not so you don't get arrested, that's just one of the results that can and probably will haopen.

Tragedy

This last shift ended with an exclamation point. I was working the day shift, and was actually looking forward to my next day, because i had made plans to go Snowmobiling. I went to a house fire, that was bad, but not too bad. I remember feeling bad for the family, because they had a lot of cleanup and work ahead of them. I left that residence and headed back to the Sheriff's office. The moment I pulled into the parking lot, I was told that a co-workers home was on fire. I will just call him Sgt. for now. I did a double take, and realized that my dispatcher did not stutter, in fact she was pretty clear about it. I ran code all the way to his residence. As i got close i could tell this was a very big fire. There was a lot of smoke. I drove past the residence and noticed Sgt. was  standing outside. I set up a roadblock on the far side of the residence. As i drove past the house, I could tell the home was going to be a total loss. There were flames totally engulfing the garage area, and they were quickly spreading to the house. I noticed that his patrol vehicle was parked near the garage, and it was on fire as well.

Sgt. was devastated. He was very emotional and just couldn't believe what he was seeing. I felt very bad for him, and really wished I could have said something that would fix it all. But there really isn't anything to say when a man's house is burning to the ground. He is a good friend of mine, and has always looked out for me. He has a place to stay, and I believe he has insurance, so in the big scheme of things it is truly one of those times that he can say, at least no one was hurt. His family was OK, and he was OK when it comes down to it that's was truly matters.

Another Meth story for Idaho

I love this a local news station has been doing some interesting stories on Meth use in Idaho, Here is another sad effect of this drug.

Meth blamed for increase in foster children

09:29 AM MST on Monday, March 6, 2006

Associated Press

COEUR D'ALENE -- State officials say that methamphetamine use is responsible for the increasing number of foster children in Idaho.

About 40 percent more children are in foster care due to abuse and neglect than four years ago.

A spokesman for the state health department says that in some areas, almost 80 percent of foster cases are connected to substance abuse.

Cities and lawmakers are drafting rules to be tougher on meth users and producers.

A proposal in the Legislature would put pregnant women in jail for using meth and other illegal drugs.

Recent reports have shown that Idaho is in the nations top percentage rating when it comes to meth treatment and Eastern Idaho suffers from the affects of meth as well. I went into the streets today and uncovered the truth about the meth problem in our community and what can be done to make it better. This is Addictions Rehabilitation Association incorporated. The people who live here are recovering from Alcohol or drugs.People like Nathan Summers, who started using meth when he was 14 and has been clean now for 10 months. He says he never thought his life would turn out this way... " I thought that I would be in prison by now but I got the chance to go through rehabilitation and I'm making the most of this situation."

-Nathan Summers Nathan says that meth is a problem in our communities especially the area that he grew up in."This area in Idaho Falls is known by addicts as midget market, even through police are trying to crack down on this area, users say that there is still a major meth problem."People like John Gaskill are doing everything they can to help the problem. His rehabilitation center is full with an extensive waiting list. He believes "once these people get over their addiction, their criminal behavior will also go away."

Busy week

It has been a busy week at work. We arrested several people. Had one couple fighting in a parking lot that we were lucky enough to catch. A fellow deputy was keen enough to make a traffic stop on the right vehicle after they had fled the scene of the fight, that resulted in one taken to jail, and one cited and released. I found a stolen vehicle that same night. The vehicle had been stolen out of a county near us, and then taken to our county. Whoever stole it tried to drive it into a river, however it got stuck on some steel beams and didn't make it all the way in. (lucky for the owner).

We also arrested a young man for forgery, he took his fathers check book and started forging his name. The kid wasn't too smart though, mom and dad found out about it pretty quick. I also had a burglary of car stereo equipment. Many sub woofers and amps. The criminal broke into their home and into their cars to steal all the stuff. The victims are convinced it's a certain individual, but unfortunately it's not what we know it's what we can prove. That one is still under investigation, and I'm pretty sure we will catch the suspect. Part of the problem on this one is the victims are trying to take things into their own hands, and have been going to this guys house and threatening to beat him up. I think the victims are going to find themselves in jail before this other guy does at this rate.

Hope you like the little video above, Ii just found that on the internet. I guess it's a stolen jeep that was running. He ran into a bank of all things.
